Focus on Latin America
Latin American economies have registered impressive growth as a result of the global commodities boom and the improved microeconomic policies. At the same time, free trade agreements with the United States languish in Congress, the business environment remains challenging, and the region is divided between democratically-elected, left-of-center regimes that govern democratically and favor market economies and those that are more authoritarian in their behavior and are espousing socialist ideologies.
